About this speaker
Omar Tantawi is a PhD candidate in the Plata Lab in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT. He uses environmental sciences and analytical chemistry to inform the design of new sustainable polymers. As a Fulbright Fellow, Omar completed his Master of Science in Environmental and Ecological Engineering at Purdue University in 2020. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the American University of Beirut on a USAID full scholarship in 2017. Omar is passionate about supporting young students from underrepresented and socioeconomically disadvantaged groups to achieve their full potential. When not working, Omar enjoys hanging out with friends and cooking.
